This from
Alan:
'The Banbury Odeon was my home for nearly 20 years when it was
owned by Classic cinemas. I was the senior projectionist and
loved every second of the job - what is it about the industry
that grabs you like no other? When I was there we ran towers
and Westar mechs. On my days off I would run a show in Oxford,
running B T H machines - they were built like tanks but so
steady and quiet - that's passion for you. I was sent to
Blackpool to run a show for a week, and it lasted 15 weeks
running carbons - that was a great time.'
This from
Philip
Mayer: 'I
haven't visited this cinema, but can tell you that it's
situated in The Horsefair, and it opened 7th Oct 1940 as the
Regal. In 1956 it was renamed Essoldo, then Classic in 1972,
subsequently Cannon and now Odeon.'
