Odeon: Forest Gate

Odeon Cinemas: Forest Gate.

If you visited this former cinema and would like to say a few words about it to be posted here, please e-mail me.

Now a Mosque, this former Odeon, was also once a snooker centre.

Although I have no recollection of it as a cinema, someone once told me he remembered seeing The Cat From Outer Space there!

This from Pat: 'Just after WWII and along with hundreds of other kids I would queue each week for Saturday Morning Picures. Sixpence bought you the bouncing ball Saturday Morning song, ancient and crackly films which often broke with a bang and a white screen and, apparently, the right for the older kids to hurl anything throwable at the projection window.

The place was truly a Picture Palace to us war weary kids with plush, red carpets, gold brocade, unusable couches; the whole Art Deco disaster. In the fine tradition of the East End the manager at the time was Jewish, now the building is a mosque. Would that the world was as welcoming as the old Odeon Picture Palace.'
