Movie Bunker

Name: Ian

Favourite combination of colours: Red and black.

Favourite visual gag in a movie: Indy shooting the sword-wielding baddie in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've always thought that gag would have suited equally well in a Bond movie.

Film I'm ashamed not to have seen: The Godfather, nor its two sequels.

Only film I've seen twice in a row with no break in between: Betelgeuse. I really think Tim Burton needs to move away a little from the gothic / Johnny Depp / Helena Bonham-Carter routine. I recently saw a trailer for Sweeney Todd and it almost looks like a spoof of a Tim Burton film.

Favourite cocktail: The blue minty one I had in Budapest in August 07 called, I think, a Swimming Pool.

Subject I wish I knew much more about: Astronomy.

Favourite way of dealing with cold callers: Quietly leave the handset on the table but don't hang up and walk away leaving them talking to themselves.

Place I'd most like to visit: Japan. I really want to see if it is like walking round a giant Blade Runner set.

Favourite way of relaxing: With a coffee and a copy of National Geographic or Geographical.

Ideal job: Designing movie posters.

Subject I probably know a bit too much about: Jack the Ripper. I'm still waiting for the definitive movie version. I enjoyed the most recent attempt, From Hell, a great deal but it had about as much basis in fact as Gremlins 2 The New Batch. Knowing as I do a lot of the lesser well-known characters makes things rather frustrating for me when all they do is concentrate on Abberline (the Depp character) and the 6 prostitutes. There are lots of other important peripheral characters.

Favourite fake on Movie Bunker: The Laurel and Hardy one. People are always surprised when I say I'm a big fan of Laurel and Hardy. I think their humour has dated remarkably little. For me, no-one has surpassed Oliver Hardy when it comes to despairing looks to camera. On an uninteresting point, my grandmother went to Stan Laurel's sister's wedding. How or why that happened has been lost in the mists of time!

Favourite holiday moment: Racing in buggies across the sand dunes of Morocco as the sun set. A real 'am I really here?' moment.

Rather unusual 'talent': I can say the alphabet backwards. Don't ask me when or why I learnt it!

Favourite actor from the Golden Age of Hollywood: Spencer Tracy. I saw a couple of his films fairly recently - Bad Day at Black Rock being one of them. I still find his acting style very modern and fresh.

Place I've never been inside: A betting shop. I'm so not interested in gambling so it's perhaps surprising that Chris and I intend to visit Las Vegas next year. However, as Chris pointed out, it's one of those places you have to see before you die.

Main job on Movie Bunker: Roving Photographer.
